Creating topic categories allows you to map your topic architecture in Communications Control and take it into account during editorial planning later on.
You can find the corresponding area in the team administration under Strategy Topic Categories. If you are not sure how to access the team administration, have a look at this article.
The key messages of this article:
The hierarchy of topic categories
In order to best map your individual topic architecture, we offer different hierarchies for topic categories:
Meta topic categories: refer to higher-level topic categories of your organization, in our case e.g. platform.
Topic categories: thematically subordinate to the meta topic categories, in our case e.g. the various use cases of Communications Control such as editorial planning.
Sub-topic categories: subordinated to the topic categories and, in our case e.g. the individual modules of Communications Control like the editorial calendar.
Creating the topic architecture
Creating a meta-topic category
The creation of meta topic categories is done in the team administration in the Meta Topic Categories section by clicking on the pink plus button. In the creation mask, the Parent topic category field is not filled in, so the topic category is automatically placed at the top.
Creating a topic category
The creation of a topic category is done in the related section of the parent meta-topic category. To do this, click on the meta topic category to which a topic category is to be assigned.
A new view opens in which all the information you have stored in the superordinate meta topic category and any subordinate topic categories are visible. Click on the pink plus button here.
In the creation mask, you will now see that the Parent topic category field is already pre-filled with the meta topic category in which you clicked the pink plus button. Now fill in the title here, and optionally, the description and tags fields.
After you save, the newly created topic category will be listed in the table at the bottom of the page.
Creating a sub-topic category
If you want to add another level to your topic architecture, you can also create a sub-topic category.
To do this, open the topic category that you want to be the parent of the sub-topic category, and then follow the steps from creating topic categories.
After all three hierarchies have been created, you will see the relationships in the overview of all topic categories:
