The chat plugin has three distinctive use cases that are supported by different sets of rights and roles.
- Private Chat Conversation
- A chat conversation, where everyone, from user to app administrator, has exactly the same rights.
- Group Chat Conversation based on Users
- A chat conversation, where a conversation administrator is equipped with more rights than any other participant of the specific chat conversation.
- Group Chat Conversation based on User Groups
- A chat conversation, where administrators and managing editors are equipped with powerful rights. Like a group chat conversation based on users, a conversation administrator is equipped with more rights than any other participant of the specific chat conversation.

Roles in Detail
User
Any app user can start a private or group chat conversation with any other app user. |
Conversation Administrator
The conversation administrator is a chat specific role to manage a group conversation. Each group chat conversation can have more than one chat administrator. The creator of a group chat conversation is automatically the first conversation admin. Any other member of a group chat conversation can be assigned the conversation admin role. |
User Group Administrator
The user group administrators have user group specific administration rights and can create chat groups based on their respective user groups. It is one of the few roles that can create group chats based on user groups and is a perfect role for creating user group engagement. |
Space Administrator
A space administrator has the right to administer the content of an entire space. But in the chat, a space administrator does not have rights unless part of the specific chat conversation. |
System-Wide Editor
A system-wide editor does not have rights in terms of a chat conversation unless part of a chat. |
Managing Editor
A managing editor does not have access to internal or open user groups, but can create a chat group based on user groups. |
Administrator
The administrator has system-wide administration rights and has access to internal as well as open user groups. Thus, administrators can create a chat group based on user groups. |
The app administrator can define who can start a new conversation in the Chat plugin settings. By default, all users have the right to create or take part in a chat. It is possible to allow only specific users or user groups to create a chat and take part in a chat. In such a case, the users who are restricted from starting chat conversations do not see the chat feature.
