It’s worth knowing the differences between roles. For adding and managing news, content-specific roles are usually enough. But for some use cases a more powerful role can be necessary for setting up additional channels or working in a distributed environment with Spaces.

Roles in Detail
User
With group management and content visibility settings it’s possible to target content to very specific user needs; for example, to specific locations or interest groups. Users that were not targeted do not see the news. |
|
Targeted users have the right to see content published for them or the group they belong to. In addition to seeing the content, users can engage with it via comments, likes, and sharing. Additionally, in interactive news channels, users can post articles, updates, and pictures to the other members of that channel. |
Channel Author = Contributor
The channel author is a role explicitly designed to contribute to a single channel. This role is perfect for interactive channels in which you want many users to participate and interact—but without the ability to access or change the setup of the channel. |
Channel Editor
The channel editor is a role that allows users to facilitate one channel. This means editing, publishing, and unpublishing news posts of other users, as well as contributing own news posts. Also, the channel editor can access the setup of the channel and make certain changes to the channel settings. |
Group Administrator
A group administrator has rights to add and remove group members and adjust group settings. A group administrator is focused on users, not content. |
Space Administrator
A space administrator has space-wide administration rights for content management. |
System-Wide Editor
System-wide editors have far more rights than normal editors and can access and facilitate system-wide news channels and news posts in the platform. System-wide editors cannot add new channels—as Managing Editors can. |
Managing Editor
Managing editors have full rights to manage system-wide news channels and news posts in the platform. Managing Editors can add new channels, which is the right that distinguishes this role from the system-wide editor. |
Administrator
The administrator has system-wide administration rights, including content management. Staffbase does not recommend to use this role for content management, as administrators also have access to user management and the platform's settings. |
