Profile fields are areas that store information about a user. These fields typically include personal information, such as the user's name and email address, as well as other details that help identify the user. The profile fields are the same for everyone but contain information specific to each user. Some fields are for administrative purposes, whereas others help improve user experiences, for example, by displaying on the profile pages.
Different Types of Profile Fields
System profile fields
These are profile fields that come with the platform by default. Administrators have limited rights to modify the settings of the field.
- Avatar
- First Name
- Last Name
- Position
- Department
- Location
- Public Email Address
- Phone Number
- Pronouns
- Header Image

Custom profile fields
These are profile fields that you create in the platform to add additional user information. Administrators have full rights to modify the settings of the field before syncing data to the field.
For example, skillsets, interests, or pets.
Profile Field Input Types
There are different input types for profile fields, depending on the information that needs to be stored. For system profile fields, you cannot change the input type. For custom profile fields, the input type can be selected when a new field is created, but you cannot change it after syncing data to the field. In such cases, you need to delete and recreate the custom profile field with the desired input type.
Following are the different input types available for profile fields:
