The grouping function is available in numerous modules: the task management, ideas, topics, content, and events module.
Note that the grouping function is exclusively available in the table view of the above-mentioned modules. The steps listed here apply to all modules where the feature is available.
Setting up a grouping path (using the example of the Topics module)
-
Open the Topics module in the table view.
-
Click the grouping icon.
-
Click the Pick a field to group by button and select the first grouping level.
-
The selected option appears at the height of the button. Repeat the process until the grouping path meets your requirements. Note that a maximum of 4 grouping levels can be selected.
-
As you add grouping levels, the results are summarized in the table below according to your specifications.
-
Click the arrow to the left of a grouping level to view all subordinate levels and, ultimately, the associated topics.
In the Content module, the grouping function provides a special detail. Clicking on the grouping symbol opens a list of predefined grouping paths, which saves you the effort of manually compiling the path. Of course, you can still create your own paths as with the previous modules if the predefined paths do not meet your requirements.
Modifying the order of the fields of a grouping path
To adjust the order of a grouping path, you don't have to remove and re-add the options by clicking on the X on the right. You can easily change the order by dragging and dropping.
To do this, click in the center of the field whose position you want to change, holding the mouse down and dragging the option to the desired location.
After the desired position is reached, release the mouse and the grouping path is changed.
Saving/reusing grouping paths
Created grouping paths cannot be saved and applied the next time with one click.
However, the paths are not deleted when you switch to another module, so the next time you visit the topic module, you will always find the last grouping path you created. Even after a full logout the grouping path will still be there.
Even after a grouping path has been deleted/deactivated (see next section), it will be displayed again with the previously entered field combinations when reactivated.
As long as you have not manually deleted the fields using the X to the right, the grouping path will remain.
Deleting a grouping path
To deactivate an active grouping, click on the blue colored grouping icon. This will remove the grouping and re-enable the default table view.
In this case, the grouping path remains in the background, so it will be restored when you click the grouping icon again.
To permanently delete a grouping path, click the X next to each field in the path. This way you will get an "empty" grouping the next time you click on the grouping symbol.
