Conditional logic shows or hides a question based on how an employee answers an earlier one. Each rule jumps to a specific question next, or directly to the end of the form, so respondents only see what applies to them.
When adding a condition, you can choose from the following destinations:
- Next question: A relative pointer to whichever question immediately follows in the default order of the questionnaire. If you reorder the questions, the rule automatically points to the new next question.
- Go to Question X: An absolute pointer to a specific question. The rule always lands on the question you selected, no matter where it sits in the questionnaire, even after reordering. You are warned if a change impacts your conditional logic.
- Submit form: An absolute pointer to the end text you have added or, if no end text exists, to the default end-of-questionnaire screen.
Build your questionnaire first, then add conditional logic to its questions. Before publishing, walk through the questionnaire in the Preview to confirm employees see what you intended.
Prerequisites
- Your form has at least two questions.
- The question you want to show or hide is not the first question or the intro text of the form.
- The question is a single choice, dropdown, recipient, or rating question. Conditional logic is not available for multiple choice, text, or date questions. For more information, see Types of Fields in Forms.
Adding Conditional Logic to a Question
- In the Studio, navigate to Content > Forms.
- Open the form you want to edit.
- Select the question you want to show or hide conditionally.
-
Select the pencil icon, then activate Conditional logic.
Alternatively, select the conditional logic icon next to the response field.
A visual indicator appears on the question as soon as conditional logic is activated.
- For each answer option, choose the destination: the question employees jump to and continue the form from, or Submit form to end the form.
- To edit a condition, select it. To remove all conditional logic from the question, deactivate the toggle.
- Switch to Preview and try different answers to confirm the right questions appear.
You have added a conditional rule to your question. It applies immediately in the Editor and in the Preview, and takes effect for employees once you publish the form.
