Mobile Menu Layout
The mobile menu is located as a quick link in the Bottom Navigation Bar. Once users tap the Menu icon, the mobile menu page opens. Above the list of menu items, users can easily access their user profile, bookmarks, groups, individual settings, and notifications.
Due to space restrictions, mobile menu items must be selected more judiciously and according to mobile users' different needs. To aid in this, you can set the visibility for each menu item based on device type. Learn more in Setting Menu Item Visibility. Even if visibility is deselected for mobile devices, content can still be reached via search or when linked directly.
Regardless of the set device visibility, users only see content in the menu they have access to, by default. Once you set the content visibility for users and groups in the plugin, for example in Chat, those settings automatically apply to the menu items.
Once users tap the Menu icon in the Bottom Navigation Bar, they can easily navigate through the different menu items. After a user opens a menu item, they can always navigate to the menu again by tapping the Back button or the Menu icon at the bottom of their app. News channels are sorted in a collapsible format under their corresponding News Page for better readability and access.
Bottom Navigation Bar
The Bottom Navigation Bar for mobile devices displays at the bottom of the mobile screen and allows you to define up to 4 quick links. This allows users to reach the menu and other frequently-used functions in the app with just one click. Learn more about the Bottom Navigation Bar.
Best Practices
Pinpoint the essential functions for mobile users at your organization and prioritize them on the mobile menu. A mobile device's small screen requires a simple and short menu structure to access content quickly. Deeper levels of content can still be reached via search or when linked directly.
Think about the types of information mobile users need. For example:
- Do your users need access to the cafeteria menu in the app?
- Do they rely on having contact information on the go?
- Do they need to receive quick feedback from coworkers on Chat?
Make sure to tailor your mobile menu to remove access to desktop-only applications. For example, remove links to programs not supported on mobile devices or tasks and documents that are difficult to access on a mobile device to bring ease to navigation.
