After you have uploaded a CSV file, you can prepare the import.

Configuring the Settings

Before starting a CSV import, you need to configure the settings that control how user data is processed. These settings determine whether existing users are updated selectively or fully synchronized with the CSV file, which can directly impact user accounts in the platform. 

The Start Import option is only available for files in Draft status.

Prerequisite:

• You know which type of import you want to use.

1. In the Studio, navigate to Users > CSV Import > the file you want to import.
2. Click the three dots to open the more options menu.
3. Click Start Import. 
   The Settings page opens.
4. Under Import Type, select one of the following:
   • Update to update a subset of the userbase
   • Overwrite all to update the entire userbase
5. If you selected Overwrite all, choose one of the following:
   • All users in the system
   • Only users created via CSV import
6. Under the Text Encoding dropdown, select the type of text encoding used in your CSV file.

7. In the Cell Separator field, enter one of the following:

   • semicolon (;)
   • comma (,)
   The default separator for CSV files is the semicolon (;). In some regions, such as the United States, CSV files may use the comma (,) instead. Ensure the separator in your CSV file matches the one you select during import.
8. Click Next.
   The Mapping page opens.

Configuring the Mapping

In the mapping step, you can map the CSV column names to the corresponding profile fields in the platform according to your user management structure. For example, map the CSV column containing account status values to Status to offboard users via delta imports, or map the CSV column containing the language locale to Language to send email invitations in a user's preferred language.

1. In the Mapping page, under Identifier maps to, select the checkbox Identifier.

   
2. Map the remaining CSV column names to the corresponding profile fields in the platform.
3. Optionally, select the following options:
   • Automatically generate recovery codes?: To generate recovery codes for users

   • Invite new users via email or Invite pending users via email: To send an email invitation

     The options to invite users via email appears only if you have mapped CSV columns to the identification Email Address.

4. Click Create Preview.

   You can also click Import File directly, but Staffbase recommends ensuring the updates you're about to make to your user base by checking the preview.

   You have mapped the file and created a preview. Now you review the import.
