In the topic planning module you can centrally manage all topic categories, topics, stories, content and events. Also the creation of all above mentioned objects can be done from the topic planning module.

Structure: Elements of topic planning
The topic planning offers you a holistic overview of your topic categories, their associated topics, stories, content and events in a tree structure on the left side of the page.
Clicking the icon to the left of the topic category () expands the associated objects to reveal sub-topic categories, topics, stories, content and events.
To the right of the tree structure, some information of the expanded objects is displayed. You can add more fields to the area using the Fields button in the upper right corner. The options include:
- Assigned to (Content, Topic, Event, Story)
- Start (Topic, Event, Story)
- End (Topic, Event, Story)
- Status (Content)
- Responsible user (content, topic, event, story)
- Date (content)
- Deadline (content)
- Target audience (content, topic, story)
- Tags (topic category, content, topic, event, story)
The right part of the topic plan visualizes the results listed in the tree structure. The time span can be optionally set to Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Quarterly.
Another part of the topic planning, the Side-Panel, is not visible at first. The side panel is only expanded when you click on one of the objects on the left of the tree structure. This is a somewhat smaller visualized form of the respective detail view with all the information stored there.
Note: By clicking on the three-dot menu to the right of the Create button, you can optionally expand or collapse all elements of the tree structure.
The views in topic planning
The period for which the results are visualized (on the right) can be set to Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Quarterly. Simply select the appropriate option using the button to the left of the Today button.
The selected period, as well as the displayed fields, can be saved for later reuse: as a separate view.
To do this, make all the desired settings and then click on the button to the right of the module name. Here you select the lowest option Save this view in the drop-down menu.
Then enter a view title and the desired location (My Views or Shared Views*) and click Save.
*Views can be shared with either the entire team, selected groups within the team, or individual users.
Overview in topic planning
To ensure transparency in topic planning, you have two options:
- sort the results by different components (the sorting options depend on the top hierarchy level of the topic planning, find out more about this here)
- limit the displayed results using the filter (including multiple use of the filter options)
Creating topics, stories, content and events in the topic plan
In addition, you can create new Communications Control objects in the topic plan. These include topics, stories, content and events.
There are two ways to do this:
-
Using the Create button
Objects created that way (topics, stories, content, events) are initially not assigned to a topic category and consequently appear in the Entities section without an assigned topic category. However, the assignment to a topic category can be done at any time afterwards.
-
Via the three-point menu of a specific object
Hereby, the objects are always assigned to the associated topic category of the selected object. In addition, the object type is predetermined. Only objects lower in the hierarchy can be created at a time
The individual steps for creating objects in the topic plan are explained here.
Multiple selection and actions
In order to, for example, assign multiple stories to one topic, the multiple selection has been activated in the topic planning.
Please note that the actions vary depending on the object type ( topic, story, etc.). Multiple selection is also only possible within an object type. For the individual Communications Control objects, the following options are available for multiple selection:
Topic category: delete
Topic: attach topic category, add assets, delete
Story: attach topic category, attach topic, share with other team, add tags, duplicate, delete
Content: request content or channel approval, attach topic category, attach topic, share with other team, add tags, duplicate, delete
Event: attach topic category, attach topic, change event group, add tags, duplicate, delete
