The Analytics dashboard provides deeper insights into how, when, and where users engage with the Staffbase platform. The Analytics dashboard is divided into different categories to allow you to dive deep into metrics.
This article explains the News tab in detail, including the graphs and analytical data found within them. Learn more about the entire Analytics dashboard, including user role access, in the Overview of the Analytics Dashboard.
Filters
The dashboard automatically opens to the News tab, showing metrics from Today by default. You can change the date range and use further filters to refine the results.
The Channel filter is unique to the News tab. You can filter based on your organization’s news channels, and your access to those channels. Once you select a filter, it is applied to all of the graphs in the News tab.
Top Metrics
There are eight metrics at the top of the tab for a quick overview. Hovering over the label provides information about the metric compared to the last month. The label underneath the metric indicates either a positive or negative change in the metric over the last month. For example, if the total views dropped from 100 last month to 50 this month, it would display a 50% decrease, indicating a downward trend.
Top Metrics
| Metric | Description |
| News Posts | The total number of news posts published within the selected timeframe. |
| Unique Posts | The number of unique news posts published or republished within the selected timeframe. |
| Visits | The number of visits measures the number of times the post was viewed within the selected timeframe. |
| Visitors | The number of unique users who viewed at least one post within the selected timeframe. |
| Interaction Rate | How many posts have been interacted with within the selected timeframe through commenting or liking. |
| Likes | The number of likes on news posts within the selected timeframe. |
| Comments | The number of comments made on news posts within the selected timeframe. |
| Shares | The number of times posts have been shared within the selected timeframe. |
Metrics
In the News tab, there are two tables and one graph with detailed metrics.
News Engagement Over Time
The News Engagement Over Time line graph displays the following metrics for News:

- Shares

The News Engagement Over Time line graph displays detailed statistics on different news metrics. Each metric has a corresponding color in the graph. By default, it displays all news metrics. This way, you can see how the options overlap in the entire graph. You can deselect one or more metrics to customize the graph. This allows for comparison between specific areas, for example, posts and likes.
When you hover over a certain date on the graph, you can see specific data for that date, depending on the metrics that are selected. You can further narrow down your results by applying filters or removing metrics.
The values on the right side of the graph also shift the appropriate high value depending on the different metrics and filters selected. For example, if the Visits metric had a high value and you deselect it, the highest graph value automatically adjusts to the next highest value.
The values at the bottom of the graph also shift automatically depending on the time frame selected. For large time frames, such as a year, the time displays in monthly increments. For short time frames, such as a week, the time displays in daily increments.
Deselecting a News Metric
- In the Studio, navigate to Analytics.
The News tab opens. - Navigate to the News Engagement Over Time graph.
- Unselect the checkbox for the metric you want to hide in the graph.
The metric is greyed out and no longer displays in the graph.
News Channel Engagement
The News Channel Engagement table shows your platform's top-performing news channels based on engagement metrics, including visits, likes, comments, and shares. This allows admins to see which channels are receiving the most interest and in what way. The channels are listed in the sideways bar graph.
News List
The News List shows each post that your users interacted with in the selected time period.
The News List displays the following metrics for News:
- Post Title
- Channel
- Visits
- Visitors
- Post Likes
- Comment Likes
- Comments
- Shares
- Notifications

By default, the list is sorted by Visits. You can click on any of the other titles in the header row to sort by the column of your choice, for example, alphabetically by title or by the number of comments. The list gives a great overview of all the posts, allowing you to compare them directly with each other.
In cases where there are more visits than visitors, the same user read the article more than once. In addition, there can be more likes than there are visits. That is because users can like a post from within the news feed, without clicking and opening the post.
Sorting the News List
- In the Studio, navigate to Analytics.
The News tab opens. - Navigate to the News List table.
- Click on the header by which you would like to sort the list.
The list sorts under that header in descending order. - Optionally, click the same header again to resort the list in ascending order.
CSV Export
