The public area is the unauthenticated section of your Staffbase app that users can access before signing in. It allows organizations to share public-facing content with audiences outside the organization, including customers, partners, applicants, and guests.
Examples of Content in the Public Area
The public area supports communication beyond employees by providing publicly accessible information and media for broader audiences, including customers, partners, and potential employees. Some examples include:
- Career pages
- Public news and announcements
- Press and media content
- Company information
- Event promotion
- Partner communication
Content Types Supported in the Public Area
You can make the following types of content visible in the public area:
- News channels: Share news posts and company updates with a public audience.
- Pages: Publish static, long-term content such as company overviews or event information.
-
Plugins: Select plugins are supported, including maps, calendars, meal plans, and Facebook pages.
Not all plugins can be made available in the public area. The Visible in the Public Area toggle is not available for unsupported plugins.

Troubleshooting
If you cannot see the Visibility in Public Area option:
- Your platform may not yet have a fully branded app configured. Demo apps and non-branded environments do not support public area visibility settings. During onboarding, your Customer Success Manager configures your branded app environment. Once the branded app setup is complete, administrators can configure content visibility for the public area.
- If your platform uses Spaces, only content from the default space (All Employees) can currently be made publicly available.
Contact Staffbase Support or your Customer Success Manager for more information.
Good to Know
- Visibility in the Public Area toggle: If you cannot see the Visibility in the Public Area toggle for a specific content item, the content type may not support the public area. Check whether the plugin or content type is on the list of supported types above.
- Engagement Features in the Public Area: Likes and comments are not visible in the public area. These engagement features require users to be signed in to the platform. If you want visitors to interact with your content, direct them to sign in to the app.
