Classic Page Editor is reaching end of life (EOL) and will be retired in favor of the Content Designer. Staffbase recommends upgrading pages before Classic Page Editor reaches EOL. This gives editors time to review any content that needs manual attention, rather than leaving it to automatic upgrading. You can start upgrading existing classic pages to the Content Designer today.
Classic Editor
- Manual HTML and CSS for custom layouts
- Limited WYSIWYG for widgets. Edit view doesn't always match the live page
- Direct publish or unpublish, no draft protection
- Flat, HTML-based structure
- No AI-assisted page creation
Content Designer
- Built-in block and layout settings
- WYSIWIYG layout. What you see in the editor matches the live page
- Secure draft-based publishing
- Flexible, reusable structure
- AI Page Generation
In addition to the above diffferences, the Content Designer is in sync with global branding settings for typography, buttons, link styling, border/shadow and structured for future Search and AI. The retirement will happen in three stages, from stopping the creation of new classic pages to automatically upgrading all remaining classic pages.
Creating a Classic page is no longer possible
Feb 4, 2027
Administrators and editors can no longer create new pages using the Classic Page Editor. Existing classic pages can still be edited at this stage.
Editing a Classic page is no longer possible
Apr 1, 2027
Existing classic pages become view-only. Editors need to upgrade a page to the Content Designer before they can make further changes to it.
Classic pages are automatically upgraded
Jul 1, 2027
Staffbase automatically upgrades all remaining classic pages to the Content Designer. No classic pages remain after this stage.
Starting retirement, ends the option to keep creating classic pages if you previously chose to stay on the Classic Editor only. Upgrading a page will never get blocked. Where something on a page cannot be fully carried over, Staffbase documents it as a limitation instead.
