News allows audience-specific publishing of dynamic content in the Staffbase App and Intranet. It is organized into a three-layered system of news pages, channels, and posts. Inside of each channel, managing editors can customize the default settings for all individual news posts.
You can define the defaults for social interactions and publication notifications in the plugin channel settings. This provides the base for all posts created within the channel. Any changes are applied only to posts created after the changes were saved. Previously published posts remain unchanged. Defaults can only be set in the channel settings and cannot be overridden within an individual post.
In the Channel Features setting of the settings, there are multiple options for social interaction and notification settings. These include:
- Comments
- Likes/Reactions
- Acknowledgements
- Highlighting
- Sharing
- Push Notifications
- Email Notifications
Besides each interaction and publication notification setting, there are two options: Allowed and Default Setting. Any settings defined as Allowed can be adjusted by Contributor roles and above within individual news posts. The table below explains the different outcomes when combining the two settings:
Channel Setting Selected |
News Post Setting |
Example |
| Setting is not allowed. The default setting is greyed out. | The setting is not shown in the news post option settings. | The comment box never displays under news posts. |

Contributors & up can toggle the option off. | Comments are allowed and set to active by default.
