Note on product naming: Bananatag became Staffbase Email in January 2022.
Some key aspects of Staffbase Email temporarily retain the Bananatag name, such as the Bananatag Gmail extension, app.bananatag.com, etc.
For all intents and purposes, Bananatag and Staffbase Email are synonymous.
Connecting Staffbase Email with your existing people management system (such as Azure Active Directory) gives you the benefit of having daily contact syncs which means all of your contact information will be kept up to date automatically. You can then use your imported contacts to build custom distribution lists in the web app.
Import From Azure Active Directory (Azure AD)
- In the Staffbase Email web app, navigate to Contacts > Import.
- Select the Azure tile to start creating this integration.
- a) From the next screen enter a Title for your Company Active Directory and click CREATE and then click CONNECT ACTIVE DIRECTORY.
Ensure pop-ups are allowed for https://app.bananatag.com
b) In the new window that pops up, enter your Microsoft AD credentials.
c) Once successfully connected to Azure, the pop-up should close and you should see a connected status.
- The next step after connecting is to choose which Azure groups you want to replicate as distribution lists. Learn more about how list syncing works.
- a) After clicking NEXT, you will map your Azure Active Directory fields, to ensure they display as desired in Bananatag. Some fields may be mapped automatically but can be adjusted before moving to the next step.
The Email Address field is a required attribute because it is used as each employee's unique ID, you can change this after your initial import. Learn more about unique IDs.
b) If you have a specific attribute imported that does not currently have a preset attribute in the Bananatag Field dropdown, you can create a custom attribute by clicking Create a new field.
c) A modal will then open, allowing you to set a custom attribute name as well as data type.
There are 3 types of data are supported based on the data type included in the import:
• Text - Plain text or alphanumeric values (“Manager”, “123ABC”, “12 Cherry Lane”).
• Number - Explicit number values like Employee ID or telephone number (no hyphens or other special characters) (“1237”, “5552140505”).
• Date (YYYY-MM-DD) - Date value such as a Start Date or Employee Contract Expiration (“2019-03-12”, “2020-12-31”).
d) With Azure Active Directory, you have the option to add custom fields. You will need to know which attributes you want to import and their Unique Field Id in order to import them. Learn where to find and how to import your Azure AD Unique Field IDs.
After you’ve assigned the attribute a name and selected the data type, click the Create Field button to create the new field and finish mapping it.
- Once all rows have been mapped, you will be able to click through to the next step - excluding contacts. This is an optional step, you may choose to skip it if you want all of your Azure AD contacts to be imported. Learn more about why you might want to exclude contacts.
a) First choose the attribute that you want to base your exclude contacts on.
Only attributes that you mapped to Staffbase Email will appear in the dropdown. If you need to return to the mapping step and re-map a field you can do so without losing your work by using the Previous button.
b) Select an operator.
c) If you choose Is or Is not you will also need to provide the field input for the contacts that should be excluded. You may add as many exclusions as you want.
Note: The input here needs to be an exact match to the field input.
Once you have your optional exclusions set up, click SYNC.
- In the final step, you will see the status of your integration and lists while they are syncing.
You are free to navigate around the web app or visit other websites while this is running.
- Once you have finished syncing, you will be able to see all your contacts by navigating to Contacts > Directory and view any lists you chose to sync under Distribution Lists.
