What is a Plugin?
Plugins are like mini applications that can add specific functionalities to the Staffbase platform. They can be seamlessly integrated into the Staffbase platform. Users may not know that they are using a plugin, since the plugin acts as a part of the platform. These plugins are optimized to be used with the Staffbase platform and offer a seamless single sign on. An administrator can install the plugin if it is already available to the organization.
In most cases, these are just developed in such a way that it is mostly plug and play, but in some cases you might need to select to use a connector to establish communication between a specific external system and the Staffbase platform.
You can also build plugins to add a custom functionality to the platform. Learn more about custom plugins.
What is a Connector?
Connectors act as intermediaries that automatically consume APIs or web service protocols to establish communication between a plugin installed in Staffbase and a widely used external system it is integrated with. The connector should be usually set up by the IT team in your organization so that the admin can easily connect the plugin to their respective system.
Example, SAP HCM Connector
What is a Widget?
Widgets are web components that add specific content blocks to your pages and news. These web components act as design elements in news and pages editors, and allow you to add content blocks in a structured manner without using additional layouts or templates. This helps you structure different types of content on the same page in an organized and easy-to-consume manner.
Staffbase offers a set of standard widgets and other widgets that offer third-party integrations. Learn more about it, here.
In addition, you can build widgets to add a custom content block to your pages and news based on your business use case. These custom widgets once installed to the platform, function like the other widgets offered by Staffbase.
