External Content enables you to efficiently handle your external communications from within the Studio. Easily create, schedule, or publish content to your connected LinkedIn account and view the post metrics. You can also create and manage content for custom channels.
You can only create, but not schedule or publish content for custom channels in the Studio. To publish content for custom channels, you need to manually publish it on the respective custom channel.
Creating a Post in External Content
You can create posts for all accounts that have been added in External Content.

In the Studio, navigate to External Content > All Posts.

Click Create Draft.
The dialog to create a draft opens. -
From the Channel dropdown, select a channel.
The dialog expands. -
From the Account dropdown menu, select an account.

In the Text and Media field, add your text.
LinkedIn posts can include plain text, emojis, links, and hashtags. Custom channel posts additionally allow text formatting.

Optionally, add an image to your post.
External Content supports only single-image LinkedIn posts.
- Click Save.
You have created a post in External Content. The post is in draft status. Now, you can schedule it.
The draft post is not yet visible in the Editorial Calendar. You need to schedule or publish it for it to appear in the Editorial Calendar.
Editing a Post in External Content
You can edit posts that have not yet been published.

In the Studio, navigate to External Content > All Posts.

Navigate to the post you want to edit.
You can only edit posts that have not yet been published.

Click the three dots to open the action menu.

Click Edit.
The dialog to edit a post opens. -
Edit any details of the post.
- Click Save.
You have edited a post in External Content. Any changes are reflected immediately.
Scheduling a Post in External Content
You can set a schedule for posts in External Content.

In the Studio, navigate to External Content > All Posts.

Navigate to the post you want to schedule.
You can only schedule posts in draft status.

Click the three dots to open the action menu.

Click Schedule.
The dialog to schedule a post opens. - In the Publication Date field, select the date you want the post to be published.
- In the Time field, select the time you want the post to be published.
- Click Schedule.
The post status changes from Draft to Scheduled.
You have scheduled a post in External Content. It is now visible in the Editorial Calendar.
Scheduled LinkedIn posts are automatically published on the assigned date and time. Custom channel posts must be published manually.
Publishing a Post in External Content
You can set a schedule for posts in External Content.
You can publish LinkedIn posts right from External Content.

In the Studio, navigate to External Content > All Posts.

Navigate to the post you want to publish.
You can only publish posts in draft status.

Click the three dots to open the action menu.

Click Publish.
The post status changes from Draft to Published.
You have published a post in External Content.
To view the published post on LinkedIn, click the action menu > View. The post opens on LinkedIn.
Custom channel posts cannot be published from External Content but must be published manually on the respective platform. However, their status can be set to Published to reflect the manual publishing.
Staffbase recommends changing the status of a custom channel post to Published only after you have published it manually.

In the Studio, navigate to External Content > All Posts.

Navigate to the post you want to publish.

Click the three dots to open the action menu.

Click Publish.
The post status changes to Published.
You have set the status of a custom channel post to Published to reflect that the post has been published manually.
Viewing Post Metrics in External Content
You can access the post metrics of any LinkedIn posts that were published via External Content.
The Post Metrics dialog shows the following metrics:
- Impressions: The total number of users who have seen the post.
- Comments: The total number of comments made on the post, including replies within comment threads.
- Reposts: The total number of times the post has been reposted by others.
- Reactions: The total number of user interactions with a post, such as Like, Celebrate, and more.
Post metrics are refreshed as described below:
- First 24 hours after publishing: Every hour
- 1-10 days after publishing: Every 3 hours
- More than 10 days after publishing: On demand when you click the post metrics button

In the Studio, navigate to External Content > All Posts.

Navigate to the post for which you want to view the post metrics.
Post metrics can only be viewed for published posts.

Click the metrics icon.
The Post Metrics dialog opens.
You have viewed post metrics to a LinkedIn post that was published via External Content.
Removing a Post From External Content
You can remove posts published via External Content from the Studio, but not from LinkedIn or the custom channel. To fully remove a post, you or a user with the necessary permissions must manually delete it on the respective platform.
If a post has not yet been published, the action menu shows a Delete option.

In the Studio, navigate to External Content > All Posts.

Navigate to the post you want to remove.

Click the three dots to open the action menu.
- Click Remove from Studio.
The Remove from Studio? dialog opens.
- Click Remove from Studio.
You have removed a post from the Studio. To also remove it from the external platform, you or a user with the necessary permissions must manually delete it on LinkedIn or the respective custom channel.
